🥩 Should you eat read meat?
Let’s dive in…👇
Back in 2019… I was a vegan.
The catalyst was the release of The Gamechangers.
A Netflix special headlined by none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Combine this with the fact there were two other people in my life at the time who I greatly admired that were also vegan…
I became convinced it was the key to unparalleled performance & health.
Oh boy was I wrong.
My veganism lasted about 2 months.
Fast forward a few years and I eat steak nearly everyday.
Here’s what I learned & why I changed…👇
Firstly... there’s a big difference between processed & unprocessed red meat
Unprocessed = no alterations except cutting, grinding or refrigeration.
This is the good stuff.
If you’re loading up on process beef burgers, hot dogs and salami…
…that ain’t good at all.
The science that says ‘red meat is bad’ is weak & inconsistent
I used to think red meat was a one way ticket to cancer-ville.
The evidence those claims are based on is extremely weak. [1]
While some researchers claim that red meat consumption is intrinsically harmful, again the evidence does not support this being the case at all. [2]
In fact, it shows that consumption of unprocessed red meat in an otherwise healthy diet all the harmful associations disappear. [3]
Red meat is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the planet
Red meat has been an important part of the diet throughout human evolution.
This is because it can provide a rich source of bioavailable essential nutrients and high biological value protein. [4]
Not only that but meat contains several essential nutrients which are difficult to obtain in the right amounts from other food sources. [5]
Namely Creatine, Taurine, and Carnosine… which all have a bunch of research that shows they have a big impact on:
Your ability to put on muscle mass
Your energy levels
Your brain function
Your heart health
Your liver function
Your nerve cell growth
Your blood sugar regulation
Your cellular aging
So I started eating a lot more grass-fed beef and then a few things happened…
I slept better
My gut felt better
I was less bloated
My energy was higher
My skin looked better
My strength increased
I recovered quicker from the gym
Now I was also doing a bunch of other stuff alongside this so its not like the steak is a magic pill…
But the fuel you put inside your engine undoubtedly has a HUGE impact on how you are able to function.
And this has certainly worked well for me so far.
I hope this was useful. Take it easy, Elliott ✌🏼 |
P.S. I share a lot of stuff on Instagram… if you want you can connect with me here.
